Why this exists

We're building this with you, not at you.

India has 1.8 million advocates and almost none of you have software built for the way the Indian legal system actually works. International tools are built for US or UK practice. Indian alternatives are old, fragmented, and often abandoned.

Before we scale Lexshastra to thousands of users, we want to get it right for the few hundred who'll use it every single day. The Early Adopters Programme is how we make sure the product we're building is the one you'd actually pay for, not the one we think you should pay for.

In return for your time and feedback, you get a full year of Lexshastra on the house.

Use cases

Built for the way you actually work.

Three common shapes of Indian legal practice. Lexshastra adapts to each.

01
Solo Advocate

30 active matters, two courts, no admin staff.

You're an advocate managing your own practice. Trial court in the morning, High Court in the afternoon, client meetings squeezed between. Every minute spent on admin is a minute not spent on the law.

What's broken today
  • Hearing dates copied from peshkar into a paper diary, then onto WhatsApp.
  • Client status calls force you to dig through scattered files for ten minutes.
  • Billing at month end means reconstructing your week from memory.
With Lexshastra
  • All matters imported by CNR. Cause list alerts push to your phone the night before.
  • One click generates a shareable case summary in seconds.
  • Time and expenses captured as you work. Invoices ready by month end.
02
Law Firm

8 lawyers, 200 matters, one shared workspace.

You're a partner at a small or mid-sized firm. Associates handle dozens of matters across multiple courts. Knowledge handoffs happen on email or, worse, not at all. When someone is unwell, files go missing for a day.

What's broken today
  • Case files live on Google Drive folders only one person knows the structure of.
  • Status update meetings turn into 45-minute reconstructions of what happened where.
  • Billing leaks because junior associates forget to log time.
With Lexshastra
  • Shared workspace with role-based access. Every matter has a single source of truth.
  • Activity log shows who touched what, when. Handoffs take minutes, not hours.
  • Time tracking is built into the flow. Billing reconciles itself.
03
In-House Legal

4-person team, 50 vendors, 12 regulators.

You lead the legal function at a fast-growing company. You manage disputes, regulatory filings, contract reviews, and external counsel. Leadership wants weekly status reports. Auditors want everything in writing.

What's broken today
  • Outside counsel send updates over email. You re-key them into a tracker.
  • Contract reviews pile up because every reviewer has a different template.
  • Weekly status decks are written from scratch every Friday afternoon.
With Lexshastra
  • External counsel get a guest seat. Updates flow into the same system you report from.
  • AI-assisted drafting standardises contract reviews and surfaces risk clauses.
  • Auto-generated status views replace the Friday deck.
A day in the life

What a Tuesday looks like with Lexshastra.

Real Indian legal practice, just with the admin chaos taken out.

  1. 7:30 AM

Wake up to today's cause list

Your inbox has the day's hearings, courtrooms, item numbers, and the latest order in each matter. Pulled from eCourts overnight.

  2. 9:30 AM

    Driving to court

Mobile app has the full case file offline. Last hearing's order, parties, opposing counsel, draft submissions, all available without signal.

  3. 11:00 AM

    Hearing done, dictate notes

Speak your post-hearing notes into the app. AI categorises them, attaches to the matter, and flags any follow-up dates as tasks.

  4. 1:00 PM

Back at office, prep tomorrow's brief

AI surfaces three relevant precedents from Indian Kanoon based on your case facts. You spend the next hour reading, not searching.

  5. 3:00 PM

    Client calls for an update

Generate a one-page status summary in seconds. Share the link. Client knows where the matter stands without you spending twenty minutes on the call.

  6. 5:00 PM

    Review the day's billing

Time entries are already there. Add a one-line description, mark them billable, move on. No more month-end reconstruction.

  7. 8:00 PM

    Tomorrow is already prepped

Calendar synced. Documents downloaded for offline access. Cause list alert set. You're done.

Our ask

What we ask in return

01

Use it

Move your active work onto Lexshastra so the feedback is grounded in real use, not a trial-mode tour.

02

Tell us what works

Honest feedback every few weeks on what's broken, what's confusing, and what's missing.

03

Spread the word (only if you love it)

If Lexshastra helps your practice, tell a colleague. Word of mouth is how we'll grow.

From the team

A note from the team building Lexshastra

We're a small team of engineers and practising advocates building Lexshastra from India, for India. We didn't start from a venture-capital deck. We started from watching people we love manage cases on diary pages and WhatsApp groups.

Indian legal practice has its own logic. eCourts, CNR numbers, peshkars, cause lists, vakalatnamas, regional languages, bar council rules. International tools ignore all of it. We didn't want to build another one of those.

If you're reading this, you're exactly who we built Lexshastra for. The Early Adopters Programme is our way of saying: come build it with us, and your first year is on us.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is the free year really free, or are there hidden charges?
Yes. 365 days of full access to every feature, with no credit card required to start. We'll send you a renewal heads-up 30 days before the year ends with whatever long-term offer we extend to the early adopters cohort. Until then, nothing to pay.
What's the catch?
You use the platform and give us honest feedback every few weeks. That's it. No commitment to publicly endorse us, no minimum usage hours, no payment if you decide to stop. If we ever ask for more, you can walk away.
How does the application process work?
Click 'Apply for early adopter access', fill out a short form about your practice, and submit. Our team reviews every application personally. We respond within 5 business days. If selected, you'll receive a private invitation link by email to create your account, and the 12 months of free access will be provisioned automatically.
Is my client data safe? Is it used to train AI models?
Your data is yours. We use Google Gemini for AI features under enterprise terms that prohibit using your data to train models. Case files, drafts, and notes are encrypted in transit and at rest. They are never used to improve our AI or anyone else's.
What happens to my data if Lexshastra shuts down?
You can export everything (cases, contacts, documents, time entries) as JSON, PDF, or DOCX at any time, no questions asked. If we ever wind down, we commit to a 90-day data export window with hands-on assistance.
Does this comply with Bar Council of India rules on legal practice?
Lexshastra is a practice management tool. It doesn't solicit clients, doesn't give legal advice, doesn't substitute for your professional judgment. Your professional conduct and responsibility stay fully with you, exactly where the Bar Council expects them.
Can my whole team use one account during the free year?
Yes. Early adopter access includes up to 5 team seats for solo practitioners and unlimited seats for law firms during the year. We won't charge per seat while you're an early adopter.
I already use Manupatra or Casemine. Why switch?
You don't have to switch. Try Lexshastra alongside, move one matter over, see if it sticks. Most early adopters use Lexshastra as their case-management and AI layer while keeping research subscriptions they already pay for.
Can I migrate cases from my current system?
Yes. Bulk import via CNR numbers from eCourts works for any litigation matter. We also import contacts and documents from CSV or Excel and offer hands-on migration support during onboarding.
Does the AI actually work in Hindi or regional languages?
Yes. The interface supports 13 Indian languages and the AI can read, summarize, draft, and respond in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Punjabi, Malayalam, Oriya, Assamese, and Urdu.
How is Lexshastra different from international tools like Clio or MyCase?
Those tools are built for US or UK practice. Lexshastra is built for the Indian court system: eCourts integration, CNR import, cause list monitoring, Indian case law via Indian Kanoon, GST-compliant billing, vakalatnama support, regional languages. None of that exists in international tools, and bolting it on never works.
